Extremely Rare Coins at Jaggards

Our collection includes the highly sought-after proof coins and the legendary 1930 Australian penny. Whether you are a seasoned collector or a new enthusiast, our curated selection offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of numismatic history.

Proof Coins

Proof coins are the epitome of craftsmanship in the world of coin collecting. These coins are specially struck using polished dies and blanks, resulting in a mirror-like finish and intricate details that set them apart from regular circulation coins. Originally created for archival purposes and to check the dies, proof coins are now highly coveted by collectors for their beauty and rarity.

  • Enhanced Detail and Finish: Proof coins are double-struck under higher pressure to ensure that every detail of the design is captured with precision. The fields are polished to a mirror finish, while the raised elements often have a frosted appearance.
  • Limited Mintage: Proof coins are typically produced in very limited quantities, making them rare and valuable additions to any collection.
  • Certification: Proof coins are graded by certification agencies, with PR70 being the highest grade, indicating a perfect coin.
1930 Australian Penny

The 1930 Australian penny is one of the most famous and rare coins in Australian numismatic history. Known as the “coin that never was,” it was never intended for circulation but has become a legend among collectors.

  • Historical Significance: During the Great Depression, the Melbourne Mint did not officially produce pennies for circulation in 1930 due to reduced demand. However, a small number of pennies were struck, likely for testing purposes, and were inadvertently released into circulation with the 1931 issue.
  • Rarity and Value: With an estimated mintage of only 1,500 to 2,000 pieces, the 1930 penny is incredibly rare. Prices for these coins can reach tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars, especially for those in outstanding condition.
  • Mystique and Appeal: The 1930 penny has captivated collectors and the general public alike, with its mysterious origins and the thrill of potentially finding one in an old jar of coins.
