Description
This complete TAA Specimen Banknote Set offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of Australian aviation and banking history. Dating back to 1982, these banknotes were part of a foiled mid-air heist attempt on Trans Australia Airlines (TAA) planes.
Five men attempted a daring robbery plan, hiding in specially built crates on a TAA flight. Their goal? To swap out Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) banknotes with the crates’ contents. However, the plan unravelled due to ventilation issues, leading to the discovery of a stowaway and the apprehension of the suspects by Queensland police.
In recognition of the TAA crew’s quick thinking and bravery, the RBA Governor presented ten employees with personally inscribed folders containing specimen banknotes. These folders included pristine, uncirculated examples of each denomination: $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, and $50.
This offering presents a complete TAA Specimen Banknote Set, originally presented to C. C. O’Brien and numbered 0014. Unlike many sets broken up and sold individually, this one remains intact in its original book and is in pristine condition.
Don’t miss this chance to own a truly unique and extremely rare piece of Australian history!
