Description
The 2027 Year of the Goat 1oz platinum bullion coin is struck by The Perth Mint from one troy ounce of 99.95% pure platinum. Wade Robinson’s reverse portrays a magnificent goat standing proudly on a mountain plain, with rugged terrain underfoot and a solitary tree in the distance, alongside the Chinese character for Goat, the inscription GOAT 2027 and The Perth Mint’s P mintmark. The obverse bears the Dan Thorne effigy of King Charles III with the weight, fineness and $100 denomination. A micro engraved letter is concealed within the reverse design as a security feature, detectable only under a magnifying glass. Each coin is presented in a Perth Mint acrylic capsule to protect your collectible.
Platinum is by far the scarcest release of the three metals. The Perth Mint will strike a maximum of 5,000 coins worldwide, against 30,000 for the 1oz gold and 300,000 for the 1oz silver, and 1oz is the only platinum size offered in the Goat year. It suits collectors completing a Goat year set across all three metals and investors adding a third metal alongside gold and silver holdings.
About the 2027 Year of the Goat Lunar Series III collection
The Australian Lunar Series is The Perth Mint’s longest running and most collected coin program. Series III began in 2020 with the Year of the Mouse and runs to 2031, each year bringing a new design for the corresponding zodiac animal. The 2027 Year of the Goat is the eighth release. Those born under the Goat in 2027, 2015, 2003, 1991 and 1979 are said to be gentle, creative and compassionate, admired for their calm nature and artistic talent.
The release spans all three metals: silver in five sizes from 1/2oz to 1 kilo at 99.99%, carrying Natasha Muhl’s “Three Goats Bring Bliss” design; gold in seven sizes from 1/20oz to 10oz at 99.99%, and a single 1oz platinum coin at 99.95%, both carrying Wade Robinson’s mountain plain design. Mintages are capped at 5,000 platinum, 30,000 for the 1oz gold and 300,000 for the 1oz silver, with the other sizes unlimited until production closes. Lunar coins draw bullion buyers and zodiac set collectors at once, which is why earlier releases have historically traded above their metal content.
