Australia’s outback is unlike anywhere else on earth. Spanning vast stretches of deep canyon, arid desert, ancient sandstone formations and sunburned plains, it is a landscape of raw and humbling scale, covering a continent of 7.68 million square kilometres that is home to between 600,000 and 700,000 species of wildlife, the vast majority found nowhere else on the planet. The Perth Mint’s Wonders of Australia series celebrates this extraordinary natural heritage, and The Outback is its latest chapter.

Designed by Jennifer McKenna, the reverse is a richly detailed montage of outback life captured in 9999 pure gold. Emus stride across the midground, a wedge-tailed eagle soars overhead, a dingo watches from the shadows, kangaroos gather near a tranquil watering hole, and a frilled-neck lizard commands the foreground,all set amongst the characteristic flora and striking sandstone formations of the Australian interior. A radiant rising sun stretches across the horizon, bathing the scene in the warm light that defines the outback at its most elemental. The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark and the 2026 year-date complete the composition.

The obverse features the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, along with the coin’s weight, purity, and face value of $100 AUD, encircled by a rich decorative border of coral and flora that reflects the broader Wonders of Australia series aesthetic.

For additional authenticity, a micro-engraved security letter is incorporated into the reverse design, detectable under a magnifying glass and designed to make the coin significantly more difficult to counterfeit.

Available worldwide, the 2026 Outback is limited to a maximum mintage of 10,000, a genuinely scarce release that brings one of Australia’s most iconic landscapes to life in the finest gold bullion. Each coin is presented in a protective acrylic capsule.
