The reverse of this coin depicts an adult rabbit and a young rabbit sheltering together amongst low brush – a composition that is deliberately quiet and intimate, and all the more effective for it. At 1 kilogram, that intimacy translates into something unexpected: a scene that feels close and detailed rather than small, with the brushwork and the animals rendered with a care that demands the scale to do it justice.
The design incorporates the Chinese character for Rabbit and the inscription Year of the Rabbit, grounding it within the Chinese lunar tradition. The Perth Mint’s P mintmark confirms its sovereign provenance. The obverse carries the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II alongside the AUD $30 face value.
