Description
This 1962 Australian Half Penny is offered in Choice Uncirculated condition, featuring a superb strike, full original lustre and no signs of wear.
The obverse shows the young laureate bust of Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverse features the iconic bounding kangaroo—one of Australia’s most recognisable coin designs. Before decimalisation in 1966, the half penny was the smallest circulating denomination. Twenty-four copper half pennies equalled a silver shilling, and 480 were required to make one pound. The coin is composed of 97% copper, 2.5% zinc and 0.5% tin.
