Description
Issued to mark the beginning of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, this 1953 Australian Half Penny is presented in Uncirculated condition. It retains its original mint lustre with no signs of wear, offering strong detail and eye appeal for its grade.
The obverse features the young laureate bust of Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverse depicts the iconic bounding kangaroo. The half penny was the smallest denomination in circulation before decimalisation in 1966. Twenty-four copper half pennies equalled a silver shilling, and 480 were required to make one pound.
