Description

The 1892-S Jubilee Head Sovereign is a striking example of late Victorian coinage, blending historical significance with enduring gold value. Struck at the Sydney Mint, as denoted by the small “S” mintmark on the reverse, this piece features the elegant Jubilee Head portrait of Queen Victoria, introduced to commemorate the 50th year of her reign.

Obverse: The Jubilee Head portrait of Queen Victoria by Joseph Edgar Boehm, depicting the Queen crowned and veiled, with the legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA and the S mintmark for Sydney, sharp and fully struck throughout.

Reverse: Pistrucci’s St George and the Dragon with the date 1892 in the exergue, presented with the complete depth of relief and surface freshness that only a coin untouched by circulation can offer.

Both sides display full, vibrant, unbroken mint lustre with a rich cartwheel bloom that speaks to a coin kept entirely apart from commerce since the day it was struck. Victoria’s Jubilee portrait is fully and crisply rendered — the veil texture, crown detail, and legend all sharp and complete with no softening anywhere. The reverse is outstanding, St George and the dragon presented in deep, undisturbed relief with every element of Pistrucci’s design intact and precise.
