The RBA kept rates on hold this week, but the tone was noticeably firmer. The message was essentially: enjoy the stability while it lasts. With inflation still lingering, the bank made it clear that rate increases next year are very much on the table. Not the festive news mortgage holders were hoping for, but it reflects the reality of taming sticky price pressures.

In the US, job openings surged again — and so did the scepticism. Many job seekers are questioning whether these advertised roles are genuinely active positions or artificially inflated figures designed to prop up confidence. Plenty of “jobs,” yet plenty of people still struggling to land one.

The US federal budget has also taken an oddly optimistic turn, forecasting a reduction in its monthly deficit from 367 billion dollars to around 137 billion. Economists warn that the numbers may be more hopeful than achievable, especially with revenue assumptions that look a little too perfect for the current economic climate.

Gold continues to behave well, holding comfortably above its moving averages with a healthy RSI profile. Macro charts still tilt bullish, though immediate-term pressure from the one-day moving average suggests a minor correction wouldn’t be surprising.

Silver, on the other hand, is still absolutely ripping. Momentum remains strong, and traders can’t ignore that the metal is edging closer to the AUD 100 mark — a level that would have seemed wildly ambitious not long ago. It’s been one of the standout performers in the metals space this quarter.
